The Physical Lab (In-Person)
The Physical Lab (In-Person)
Neuroscience research, with full measurement control.
At Signal & Noise, we believe methodology should follow the research question, not the other way around. Some business questions require more than scalable behavioral measurement. They require tighter environmental control, deeper physiological data, and research conditions designed to reduce noise and maximize measurement precision.
Our Physical Lab is built for exactly those situations.
In a controlled research environment, we can combine advanced neuroscience and biometric methodologies including EEG, high-precision screen-based eye tracking, galvanic skin response (GSR), heart rate monitoring, facial coding, voice analysis, and integrated multi-method research designs.
This allows us to capture behavioral and physiological signals that are difficult, limited, or impossible to measure remotely, while ensuring greater consistency across participants and stimuli.
For our clients, this creates meaningful advantages:
- Higher measurement precision through controlled testing conditions
- Access to deeper physiological and neurophysiological data
- Integrated multi-method measurement within a single study
- Greater consistency across participants, stimuli, and testing conditions
- Stronger experimental control for more complex research questions
At Signal & Noise, we use in-lab research where the added rigor genuinely improves decision quality, not simply because more technology is available.
What can be measured in-lab
EEG
Measure attention, engagement, and emotional processing through brain activity.
Eye Tracking
Measure visual attention through webcam-based eye tracking.
GSR
Measure physiological arousal linked to emotional intensity.
Heart Rate
Track emotional engagement, stress response, and cognitive load.
Facial Coding
Capture emotional response through real-time expression analysis.
IAT
Reveal automatic associations beyond conscious self-report.
What can be tested in-lab
Video advertising and communication testing
Measure attention, emotional engagement, physiological arousal, and cognitive response under controlled conditions.
Packaging evaluation and design testing
Assess visual attention, design hierarchy, shelf visibility, and first-response behavior with greater measurement precision.
Shelf and retail simulations
Explore how visual attention and decision behavior unfold in controlled shopping scenarios or simulated retail environments.
Concept and messaging testingology is right for my project?
Measure intuitive response, emotional engagement, clarity, and cognitive friction around early-stage ideas.
Brand asset evaluation
Assess logos, visual identity, communication materials, and brand stimuli through integrated behavioral and biometric measurement.
Website and digital experience testing
Evaluate navigation, visual attention, interaction behavior, and friction points using high-precision screen-based measurement.
Social media and digital creative testing
Measure how audiences respond to digital content, creative formats, and campaign communication in a controlled environment.
Implicit association testing
Reveal automatic brand or category associations beyond conscious self-report.
Integrated multi-method behavioral studies
Combine EEG, eye tracking, GSR, heart rate, facial coding, and other methods to build a richer understanding of consumer response.
Different environments. Different strenghts.
Remote and in-lab research each offer distinct advantages. The right environment depends on the business question, the methodology, and the type of behavioral signal you need to measure.
